Graduation Bag

$175.00

Created to mark the completion of my MFA, the Graduation Bag offers a larger canvas for the archive. Like the Thesis Bag, it transforms personal photographs, original graphics, and sourced materials into a functional work of art. Each bag features hand-sewn graphic applications selected from an evolving archive of personal photographs, original graphics, and sourced materials that speak to Black culture, history, and personal narrative. The custom embroidered patch reimagines the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial emblem through the colors of the Pan-African flag, layering histories of national identity with Black cultural symbolism.

No two Thesis Bags are alike. The bag pictured is an example of the Thesis Bag style and is not the exact bag you will receive. Each Thesis Bag is individually composed by the artist using a unique selection and arrangement of archive motifs, making every bag one of a kind.

15oz Heavyweight Cotton - 23” W x 14”H

Each bag is individually handcrafted and finished with custom-developed Pan-African webbing straps and a woven MULTIPLY brand label.

Please note: Every bag is handmade and features individually hand-sewn graphic applications. Slight variations in stitching, motif placement, and construction are inherent to the making process and are part of what makes each piece unique.

Please allow 2–3 weeks for your order to ship. MULTIPLY is a studio of one, and every bag is individually handcrafted and made to order.

Edition of 36 Bags

ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Due to the nature of vintage items and one-of-a-kind works, returns and exchanges are not accepted. Please read product descriptions carefully and reach out with questions before purchasing.

Many items in the shop are vintage or handmade and may have slight imperfections. These qualities are considered part of the work and are noted in the item description when relevant.

All original works, designs, and images are the property of Christine Miller and may not be reproduced or used without written permission.

My archive includes historical racial ephemera including imagery such as Aunt Jemima and misc objects. These materials are incorporated as part of my ongoing exploration of commercial consumption, memory, and representation. If you are ordering a Thesis Bag, please select one of the options below under Archive Preferences to indicate whether you would like these archival motifs to be considered as part of your bag.
